And Away We Go! - Hurray! New comic, new comic! Welcome one and all, please take off your coat and sit down, make yourselves at home - we're gonna have a lot of fun here over the next few years. For those of you who are wondering, the update schedule is going to be Mondays and Fridays, so it should provide a nice way of beginning and ending the working week. I'm also working on a second new comic that'll update on Wednesdays, but it's not quite ready yet.

Now most of you here this early in the comic's life are probably familiar with some of my other comics. If that's the case, thanks for trusting me by following my link to this new site. I have a favour to ask of all of you - as this comic's new and doesn't have a lot of content yet, it could really do with a bit of a push to get things going. I'd be really grateful if you start spreading the word; link the comic on your own site, message a friend, start a Facebook page and whatnot - I feel dishonest if I do this stuff too much myself.

Now, the comic. Notice the date I drew it - I've been sitting on this one for quite a while. To be honest, it might give the wrong impression about what you should expect from Special Level - this is not a gaming comic. Strange, huh? Considering it has a gaming related name and the first comic is about playing computer games and everything. I drew this before I had a real idea of where the comic's plot was going to go; consider it the pilot strip if you want. I decided to post it anyway because it gives a pretty good introduction to two of our main characters, Winston and Allen. I'm going to spend the next month or so introducing the characters and the scenario before the action starts properly. You'll see what I mean when we get there.

I think I'd like to be a little more interactive with the comment section this time around, so let's see if we can get some good discussions going. Today's comic is about refusing to move when gaming. I remember the most intest gaming experience of my life was probably the first time I played Knights of the Olf Republic II. I had the day off school on Friday, and I played it all day Friday, all day Saturday, took a break on Sunday and then finished it on Monday. This was a thirty hour game, and when I finally turned it off at around 6am Saturday morning to get some sleep I found it so imbedded in my brain that I had a dream that I was in the game!

So, my question to you all. What's your most intense gaming experience - how much did you wear yourself out, or did you manage to catch fire, or was your controller eaten by a leprechaun? Bonus points for particularly entertaining stories.

The Mixtape - Webcomics are different from print comics, in that they can be far more multimedia experiences. This comic's not going to feature Flash like some of my older ones, but I will be including the link to a song I feel particularly fits the mood of the comic - call it the soundtrack if you will.

Today's song is Heads Up, Hearts Down (Acoustic) by I Fight Dragons. I'm more a fan of the acoustic version than the original, but both are cool. If you like the sound of this, it's available for free at their website if you sign up for their mailing list. Enjoy!

This is so much like me.
Except instead of flaming lamps, it's coursework...
And instead of Sonic, its Civilisation 5...
And my name's not Winston...

Thanks for the comments everyone. Somehow this comic got more unique visitors yesterday than Totally Crossover usually gets! You guys are fantastic!

@Genshai_ - I hadn't really considered making a new forum for this comic; the old TK one was pretty dead. Maybe we'll wait a while and see if we can get a big enough readership to make it work.

@TheBigCheese - I guess that's like some kind of hidden allegory in the comic; fire represents the pressures of the world, Allen represents the voice of reason which is slowly drowned out, the sofa represents, uh, communism or something. Basically, my subconscious is a genius.

While I haven't let my house begin to burn down I have played Dragon Age for a few days and did an end of the semester project in about an hour, at 3 in the morning.
