The Rise of Ganonlink - For those of you who noticed, yes, Mr Pirate is inspired by Link. Not directly, but it seems the resemblance is still noticeable.

Back when I was considering doing a second year of Totally Crossover (which I've since given up on), I began coming up with a group of main characters. I'd decided to go the Fantasy route this year, and so I wanted Link, Dusty the Pokemon Trainer and Hawke from DA2. Then I considered, what if I didn't use Link? What if, instead, it was Link's son? As the ultimate insult to Ganondorf, Link married his daughter - and so I designed a Link with the colour scheme of Ganondorf - dark skin, red hair, grey clothes. It looked unexpectedly cool - in fact, all of the character designs did (they're in the Totally Crossover book I'm planning on publishing any day now). However, due to a lack of time to play the games I'd be reviewing, and full of a desire to tell my own story, I scrapped Totally Crossover 2 in favour of Special Level, where I could use a lot of the same elements - the fantasy world, etc - but could make the story my own.

When it came time to design an awesome pirate, I originally started with a typically boring elf colouring - until I remembered Ganonlink and decided to use that as a basis for the design instead. I think you'll agree that he's one of the coolest-looking characters in the comic so far.

EDIT: Okay, apologies for not being clear here. This pirate character is NOT the Ganonlink. He's in no way Link related - his character, personality, history and basically everything about him are in no way related to Link, or Ganondorf, or even Tingle.

His only connection to any of that stuff is that I based his appearance on the toon Zelda art style, specifically on the Ganonlink character I'd invented. His backstory will become clear over the next few weeks, but while there is a legendary hero and a magic sword in this story, it sure as heck isn't Mr Pirate.
